Did you know that under the law pets are seen as replaceable property? That’s right, the law essentially treats losing a pet the same way as losing a table. In honor of Chloe the Mini Frenchie, Loni Edwards’ beloved dog who passed away due to medical error, PetInsider will be featuring a story every Wednesday about pets being family, not property. Please join us by reading the stories and signing the pledge we created with the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) to push for change.

Meet Diddy Kong and Yeti Kong. They are the tiniest monkeys but the largest part of our family!
We (Matt Crown & Gabriella Katia) first rescued Diddy Kong from a sanctuary back in 2015. Nursing this little guy back to health made us feel like a real family. As soon as Diddy Kong was healthy again, we realized the best thing for him was to get him a friend. That is when Yeti Kong came along. Diddy Kong and Yeti Kong are inseparable. They spend their days lounging in hammocks and eating tiny, organic-prepped foods. By night they snuggle together with warm blankets in their hanging cocoons.
Our little family then expanded yet again when we decided to get our little spunky chihuahua, Kirby. Now our family of tiny animals has started to feel rather large, and we couldn’t be happier!
Kirby, Diddy and Yeti share the same love for running around outside and playing tag. They also love treat time and lots of love and kisses from Mom, Dad and from each other.
We couldn’t imagine a day without waking up to these little guys. We have been working with Loni from the dog agency for quite some time now, and as soon as we heard what had happened to her beloved Chloe, we were devastated. Chloe’s life was taken by medical error during a vet visit. The fact that the law couldn’t help her at all put us in complete shock. We couldn’t picture being in her shoes. Let’s all team up with Loni and the Animal Legal Defense Fund in hopes to protect the ones we love and show the world that #petsarefamilynotproperty.
