It all started in 2015, in a Manhattan bar. A meet-up for the cat lovers behind our Instagram-famous cats.
About 50 people from all over the country attended. Cat lovers were swapping stickers and business cards with their cats’ faces on them, showing off pictures of their fur babies, and wearing some of the coolest custom cat gear this side of the Hudson River.
It was there while chatting with three other cat lovers, we had an idea: if we can get this many people to hang out simply due to their love of all things feline, why can’t we do it on a larger scale? We thought it would be amazing to unite cat people in the same type of environment to celebrate all things cats while benefitting local animal rescues – and thus #PawItForwardNYC was born.
Not having much experience on the fundraising front, we started reaching out to pet supply companies explaining our mission. The response was incredible! Within no time we had donations pouring in! The first year we had 100 people in attendance and by the second year, we’d almost doubled our attendance.
We have raised close to $10,000 for local rescues, including Sean Casey Animal Rescue and Jersey Cats and we don’t plan on stopping! We are now in full swing planning of our 3rd Annual Paw It Forward fundraiser. It will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14th, 2017, in New York City at DEWEYS Pub and will benefit Kitty Kind Organization. Kitty Kind is a non-profit, no-kill, all volunteer adoption group based out of NYC. Check out some of the kittens up for adoption in our gallery and visit their adoption page for more!
We are currently looking for sponsors and press to get involved in our growing event. We are looking for either monetary donations or product donation for our raffle baskets. So far, we have confirmed sponsorships from Kate Spade, PetMate, Red Roof Inn, Wellness Pet Food, Litter Robot, Meow Parlour, Great Went Photography, MeowBox, Catit, On2Pet, , katris and more are being added daily.
We are also looking for press interested in spreading the word about Paw It Forward!
