National Dog Day is August 26 and Lidl is doing their part to help out the hounds. They’ve teamed up with nonprofit organization Operation Paws for Homes (OPH) to help raise awareness and resources for shelter pups across the country.
To get people excited, they’re posting live streams of adorable adoptable puppies on their Facebook page starting August 21. For every like that these videos get, Lidl will donate a meal to two local shelters.
Another part of this Retail to the Rescue project happens in the Lidl stores. For every bag of Orlando-branded dry dog food that’s purchased between August 21-26, they will donate an additional cup of food to the shelters.
Love dogs? Great, us too! That's why we're celebrating #NationalDogDay all week long by partnering with Operation Paws for Homes (OPH) to provide dog food to two local animal shelters in need.* For every 'like' this original post receives from now until 9 pm, August 26, 2017, we'll donate one cup of dog food – up to a year's supply** – to two OPH partner shelters. For more information, please see the Notes section of our Facebook page. #rethinkgrocery

This partnership is so important because it helps provide shelters with the tools they need to find their pups a loving home. Additionally, it helps raise awareness for the growing problem of unwanted pets and overpopulation.
Jen Maki from OPH said that “by working together with Lidl on the Retail to the Rescue project, we are supporting our shelter and rescue partners who need vital resources such as dog food. When these organizations can rest assured that the dogs in their care are being fed, they can then focus on program building and adoption development. This is how we move rescue forward.”
