Dog lovers rejoice! Imagine drinking a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in a cafe with your chihuahua, because now you can. New York City’s first dog-friendly cafe, Boris & Horton opened in January and we’re all (dog) ears about it.
Boris & Horton is a dog-friendly cafe, not a dog cafe, a distinction that‘s an important one to the founders. “It’s a solution for dog owners who want to eat and drink with their dog,” Logan Mikhly, the president and co-founder said. The cafe is split into two parts: a dog side and a cafe side. The cafe side is a normal set up; you order food and drinks and eat without a dog by your side. The only difference on the dog side from the cafe side is that there isn’t waitstaff service. However, there are five tables and three benches where you can sit and eat with your dog after you order on the cafe side.
It’s already so popular that 40-50 dogs come through daily, according to Mikhly. The cafe has even had a brush with fame. Two weeks ago, three members of the “Real Housewives of New York City” filmed an episode here with their dogs.
But Boris & Horton goes beyond giving a friendly environment to dine with your dog, as they host many animal adoption events there as well. “I think my favorite one to date was two weekends ago. We did an adoption event with animal control. They brought a van with dogs, cats, and bunnies. They said they couldn’t fit another dollar in their donation jar because people were so generous,” Mikhly said. To learn more about their adoption events, visit their website.
