Hero Pit Bull Saves 7-Month-Old Infant from Fire

Pitbulls get a lot of flack when it comes to the dog breed world: They’re often portrayed as mean aggressors, dogs better suited for serious security detail rather than playing with kids. But one pit bull in California proved himself to be an integral part of the family after saving the youngest one from a fire, as reported by People Pets.

The story goes that when flames enveloped Nana Chaichanhda’s residence on June 3 in Stockton, California, it was the 8-month-old dog, Sasha, who alerted the family of the fire. “I opened [the backdoor the dog was banging on] and she runs in and starts barking at me like crazy and I was like, ‘OK, this is weird. This is not like her,’ ” Chaichanhda told multiple local news outlets on Friday.

And by the time she headed to her daughter’s bedroom—who is currently just seven months old—the pit bull was already in action. “[Sasha] had already had my baby by the diaper and was dragging her off the bed. If it wasn’t for her, I would have still been in bed and things could have taken a worse turn,” Caichanhda said.

What’s more, Ciachanhda is hoping Sasha’s exemplary work will be a step forward in de-stigmatizing the negativity often associated with pit bulls. Obviously, we couldn’t agree more.
