We love to take care of our furry friends—finding the cutest accessories, top toys, best grooming products, and finest foods for dogs and cats is commonplace these days. So much so, in fact, that the proliferation of the luxury pet industry has some questioning the whole thing, according to a recent story published in the New York Times.

In “The Secret Price of Pets,” writer Peter Haldeman discusses the onslaught of fancy new eats, toys, and tools for dogs and cats. Perhaps the most hilarious discussed are prosthetic testicles for neutered pets known as Neuticles. Most famously, Kim Kardashian West had her boxer Neuticled, with hundreds of thousands of other pups going through the procedure since its inception in 1995.

While the idea of prosthetic testicles may be a bit over-the-top, we love many of the other innovations reviewed as they make for happier and healthier pets. There are mentions of pet spas with detox treatments, cashmere dog sweaters, and top-of-the-line CBD tinctures made to help relax more rambunctious pets. (One of my cats immediately comes to mind.) Because what could be better than making your best furry friend happy, right?
Luxury accessories, of course, come at a cost, so it’s important to find what works for your own budget and BFF—every animal is different. Check out the article and let us know what you think!
