While on a walk with his owner, golden retriever Storm definitely lived up to his breed. When he saw an injured deer struggling in the water, he immediately jumped into action to help retrieve it.
“Storm just plunged into the water, started swimming out to the fawn and then grabbed the fawn by her neck and started swimming in to the shore,” said owner Mark Freely.
Freely immediately whipped out his phone and started recording the whole encounter. As you can see, Storm gently grabs the fawn on the neck and brings it safely to shore. Once safely on land, he even makes sure the deer is okay and tries to gently nudge it to safety.
This video, however, is not the end of this saga. Moments later, the terrified deer ran back into the water after apparently being spooked by the dog. Luckily, Freely had already called emergency personnel and they arrived quickly to help rescue the deer for a second time.
With the help of Frank Floridia and Erica Kutzing from Strong Island Animal Rescue League, Freely was able to bring the deer back to shore safely once again. Thanks to the help of one pooch and three determined people, the deer is now resting at a local animal rescue center until it’s strong enough to be returned to the wild.
