Cat Accidentally Shipped Across Canada (and Survives!)

Fact: Cats like boxes. Next time, you’re packing one up to ship off, be sure to do a quick sweep for whiskers and fur.

According to theprovince.com, a Halifax cat named Baloo climbed into his owner’s packaging just before she taped it up and sent it off to Montreal, roughly 750 miles away.

How does an extra 10 pounds of packaging go unnoticed? Well, when you’re sending tire rims, it all feels heavy. According to the site, owner Jacqueline Lake “recalled thinking it was strange that one of the package weighed 10 lbs heavier than the others, but assumed it was due to a possible problem with the tire rims.”

Lake and her family soon noticed one-year-old Baloo was missing and put up fliers and searched the area. After four days of panic, she received a call from the Montreal SPCA that the cat had made the 17-hour journey unscathed. (The shipping company contacted the Montreal SPCA, who hunted down Lake.)

According to the original news source, Baloo will be home for the holidays: Freedom Drivers, a group of volunteers that transport shelter animals, left Montreal Friday evening to take him home. bonus: the Montreal SPCA microchipped him…just in case he’s feeling adventurous again.
